According to those two articles, it seems that the Rafale in Libya was good enough to persuade the Emirates that the 90kN engine is not necessary, after all.
We have yet to see what will be the final decision, but it's not the first time that it's reported that UAE may find the current engine more appropriate than initially thought. It already happened two years ago when France conducted strike missions over their country as a trial. At the time, a few Rafale could enter UAE, avoid AD (including SAM and fighters) and launch (virtually) Scalp on fictive targets, all successfully.
I really doubt there is anything serious. UAE gather informations to the last minute... But it's definitely a blow to France... F/A-18E, more F-16block60, Typhoon... Incredible !

The UAE and France have been locked in discussions about the purchase of 60 Rafale jets, estimated at $10bn.
Major General Ibrahim Naser Al Alawi, the Deputy Commander, UAE Air Force and Air Defence, said yesterday the UAE would announce a deal during the show but declined to say whether it would be related to the Rafale jets.
Palomeros said the negotiations are now about the cost of maintenance and manpower. The French defense ministry has also been negotiating a costed, long-term support contract with Snecma for the M88.
"Thanks to President (Nicolas) Sarkozy, France could not have done more diplomatically or politically to secure the Rafale deal," Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, deputy of the country's armed forces, said in a statement, adding that Sarkozy's "personal intervention in this process has sustained Dassault at the forefront of our considerations." "Regrettably Dassault seem unaware that all the diplomatic and political will in the world cannot overcome uncompetitive and unworkable commercial terms," he said.
That's what I call an ultimatum.
I think this shows one thing : we're not far from an end. Happy or not.
Negotiations on UAE Rafale deal ongoing-French source

"The negotations continue, there is no failure," the source said. "It is part of the negotiating process ... The United Arab Emirates is trying to include the Eurofighter to negotiate the price."

I just realized I hadn't updated this topic...
So, here we go :
President Sarkozy would be planning a visit to the UAE this month, which could mean that a contract could be signed very soon, since all technical and financial terms are finalized : http://rafalenews.blogspot.com/2012/02/ ... ncial.html
The British side is said to have recently intensified contacts with the UAE Air Force (UAEAF) on a deal for the Eurofighter Typhoon. The following 440-word report sheds light on these contacts and tells what about the position of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
