And yet, Dassault made no noise about it at Aero India. Not a word. No press statement. To them, as long as the right people knew, it didn't matter. That's Dassault apparently. That's why you don't hear very much about or from them, which can be pretty unsettling for a journalist.
Appears to be serious as even AviationWeek reports it. We are hopefully smarter in a few days or so when a formal announcement is made. At least Saab has officially confirmed that it is out of the race.
According to the article it seems that the Rafale has a higher notch in terms of performances than the Typhoon. Which means that the french made jet probably scored the best overall performances among the six planes initially selected.
The general feeling in indian forums is that the Rafale will probably be choose.
...it's the Typhoon. The Eurofighter, followed closely by Rafale, “came closest” to meeting the 643 technical attributes specified by India during the long-drawn field trials held by IAF test pilots both in India and abroad under different weather conditions.
But is anyone really surprised by the ever contradicting press releases from Indian sources?
Anyway it's nice to see that both European fighters made it to the short list and I'm happy any of the two. Both need export sales and this is by far the largest international fighter competition since a very long time. I just hope that the process isn't further interrupted and delayed, especially as some of the losers may not accept their elimination. I personally believe that the Rafale will make the running, but before we get to excited let's wait and see. The deal is only done when it is signed...
There has been quit a lot of contradicting reports for sure !
According to most indians followers the Rafale may have a slight edge over the Typhoon due to the fact that it is a more mature A2G platform, and that its AESA RBE2 radar will be operational earlier than the CAESAR of the Typhoon.
